HI peeps, I'm in process of cleaning and rebuilding the top and have just cleaned barrels. On removing the old base gasket I've found two groves that expose the cam chain gallery to the cylinder studs. These studs are not oìl carrying, are these supposed to be there? Well confused

They are something of a mystery , different theories as to their purpose they require the inner two LH head bolts to have the rubber sleeves to prevent oil escaping to the outside world . These "oilways" do not appear on all engines but which ones I'm not sure , my CB350SG has them as did my 250N .

Ah. That sort of makes sense why two bolts have those seals on them.
Thanks for that. Onwards and upwards

My 400na has them but an earlier 400 barrel i have doesn't and my 79 250 n doesn't have them, a few folk have blocked them off and then you don't need the rubber sleeved bolts.

Cheers guys I'm just gonna ignore them and carry on with the rebuild. For one horribly moment I thought I'd damaged the wall.
