A lovely biking day here on the Isle of Man was about to be wasted on non-biking commitments, but we managed to escape this afternoon & headed up to a classic bike show in Ramsey, arriving just as everyone was leaving . But we did bump into Chris (bodie) , so a little bible was hastily organised. But first, a stop off at Evomoto to have a look at Paul's freshly rebuilt 400/4 motor - and some beautifully restored classics - and a few words with Dave Molyneux, fettling his race engines! Then Paul arrived wheeling the restored rolling chassis Should look stunning when it's done! We left them to it then & had a little SD (& GPZ) ride round the north of the Island, stopping off for the obligatory photo shoot!

No, Dave, it's not as shiny as the photos make it appear - a perfect satin finish. But it looks like the csstings were flawless to start with. The other engines he had done were the same.

No, just perfectly smooth mat crankcase bits & satin finished covers. I peered through the starter motor hole in another engine he had done & even the stator windings looked like new! Wish Id taken pictures of the bikes in there, ,including a stunning 500/4

no not painted! crank cases go through 3-4 stages the last being a mass vibration process which involves the cases going into a vibrating machine which contains ceramic ball bearings and lanolin nothing is actually blasted at it so there is no chance of blast materials being imbedded in the casings that might through heat cycles and vibration come out of the cases and end up going around with the engine oil , not good! and the side casings are done with a slight brush finish the pictures do not actually flatter the engine it is way better in the flesh

I bet he`s proud of it, its certainly a really good finish. the crankcases must have been in good nick before the work, as I can`t see any pitting or rough casting on them like you get on a lot of parts.

dont know if there is more room on 400 than 750 sohc but it gives a bit more room if you put exhaust studs in after engine is in frame but he probably all readt knows this its looking very nice
