I wonder if it's possible?
First port of call may be to ring up Haynes and ask them if they have any more info on the bike.

Do you think they actually had one? Library photo without numberplate on the front cover and similar at the start of the additional section- no numberplate. And no actual photos of any NC work in the sections.....

I thought in the later manual they showed it being worked on towards the rear section? And there was an acknowledgment to the dealer (I think in Somerset) who loaned them it?
Could be mistaken as I currently don't have that manual to hand.

I have 3 versions of the Haynes. The original with the blue 250N on the front published 1979, credits Paul Branson M/C of Yeovil as supplying the bike. Another mystery bike- as I think it's obviously a very early one- the most I can get of that one's reg is *MU ***T. Is "MU" Yeovil area?
The later Haynes have the 400NC on the front, and get cheaper and nastier paper quality. The 1993 version with the NC on the front definitely has no photos of that model being worked on- even in the additional section at the back. And at the start of the main manual they added a credit "Our thanks are due to Honda (UK) Limited for permission to reproduce their line drawings and for supplying the colour transparency of the CB400NC featured on the front cover" (They added the bit in red). So Haynes definitely never had the actual bike on the cover. Inside at the start of the section on the NC models there is another photo of a 400NC, but it is B/W and poor quality. Bike does not seem to have the rear muddy drilled for a plate, so maybe another generic Honda image.
Guy called Tony Steadman took all the original photos- wonder if he is still around?....

'MU' appears to be N.E London. I just had a nagging suspicion that this was the bike. I'm unsure why. I mean it could be any 400NC out there.
