Went to cut the lawns this afternoon & lawnmower was a bugger to start really stiff on the pull start & it's been noisey for ages. i got half way through cutting the rear garden and suddenly a massive clang & motor stopped instantly, no slowdown just Boom ! & stopped, smoke poring out from everywhere. its done a lot of work over the last 12ish years & it was only £40.00 from Argos as end of line when I brought it scrap yard is the next place it will be going as I won't even attempt to repair as it really made a massive noise and its solid as a rock

Bought my Suffolk Colt cylinder mower from the local paper in 1998 for £35. Since then spent £12 on it (plus petrol and oil) and it's still going strong
Probably put the kybosh on it now

A lot of (slow) red machinery is breaking up of late.....RGV 413W being no exception.
If you'd have sprayed the contraption silver - then upped the revs......my gut is that you would not have had a problem, Rich.
Look - you live and learn.

Are you going to do a full rebuild Rich?
Prices of these particular models are rising daily.
Retro mowers are the future - you heard it here first.

I'm searching for a new valve & piston but has to be correct 2001 model -challenge- (Argos special) the one with stripes on the side, that mower has been a great machine over the years & getting it back to showroom standard is my next project I've straightened out the bent pushrods so have made a positive start !

Good work.
Just studied the exploded (pardon the pun) diagrams on CMSNL.
Do remember that the rotor cover had satin black countersunk phillips screws holding it on rather than the more common drab olive plated allen key screws as found on the 2002-on models.

Wow , good job ! Had the governor given up or just over revving for a quick cut ?! I had a Fiat Coupe Turbo that looked like that but 4x worse !

The decals now seem to be NLA except one of them.
There is a bloke in Derbyshire who can reasonably replicate....so it might be your only option.
