......are starting to annoy the hell out of me. Absolutely no regard for their own safety or respect to other road users. How much are a set of lights for a cycle (even secondhand)? Not the cost of your life, that's for sure. Rant over.

don't forget the ones that do have lights the ones that are brighter than car headlights and they clamp them on the handle bars and don't care how many people they blind I stopped one the other morning just to let him know he was blinding me every morning for the past 3 weeks and the answer I got was f--- off and mind your own business --charming!!!

I often come across a pack of Lycra clad cyclists, all with intense, US military grade LED lights on permanent high beam. Worse still, the favoured mode seems to be a rapid flashing! I don't think they realise that dazzling the f**k out of car drivers is more likely to get themselves squashed.
Big cycling interests around here on our narrow lanes, but they are very aggressive to every other road user.....

The ones that really pee me off are the ones that hurtle past (as you wait at a red light) straight through the traffic light like they don't apply to cyclists

I think the highway code states that you can actually run them over if they do that...

We get a lot of foreign students from the local University riding without lights round here , sometimes on the wrong side of the road , in a group with their shopping hanging from their handlebars ! The Uni issues new students with reflective vests but the students then seem to think this is an alternative to lights ....
One student to my knowledge was killed while out running after dark with no vest/lights etc on but remarkably the locals have avoided the cyclists so far although often mentioned as a hazard .
I find it objectionable to mention deliberatley running someone down as amusing and as bikers we are always vulnerable ourselves .

I used to cycle to work and luckily only have a about 200m of road to ride on before getting to a cycle path , even during that short distance I have a had buses run me off the road - once coming head on towards me passed parked cars leaving me no where to go and once overtaking me as far as his back wheels before pulling in to the side squeezing me into the kerb . So I have a low opinion of being run over and a very low opinion of bus drivers especially those employed by the same company that tried to drive through our local Remembrance Parade www.bedfordshire-news.co.uk/watch-moment-bus-drives-remembrance-memorial/story-28140773-detail/story.html

Speaking as a cyclist commuting c. 200km per week, they annoy the f*** out of me as well I have two headlights; a dipped beam pointing at the road in front of my bike so as not to dazzle, and a high beam which I only use on the off-road / unlit sections of my commute and always dip when there's on-coming traffic, and two led's to the rear along with high-viz jacket & gloves. Being visible doesn't have to be anti-social. I also have a mirror and a bell and use both daily, and I get out of the way when I'm holding up large traffic (HGV, buses that sort of thing). Just like motorcyclists being perceived to all ride like dicks, we're not all bad but as usual it's the minority (quite possibly the majority with cyclists actually) spoiling it for the rest. In answer to your original question, decent lights to be seen by are cheap. These are excellent: www.amazon.co.uk/Smart-Lunar-R1-Rear-Light/dp/B005GPLYHW(I have two) And are £10 if you shop around. Tesco sell bright (but short-lived) USB rechargeable lights for £8; I bought one as a backup helmet light yesterday. My lights to see by are at the other end of the spectrum though; I bought mine for about the same as my CB450dx cost me lol

I don't think the flashing lights are actually illegal- strangely enough.
I think cyclists are very vulnerable and we as motorists need to take care with them. But as with us bikers- I just cannot understand why they are in general so aggressive towards every other road user? When out riding, plenty of car drivers do stoopid things and I need to ride defensively. I've seen bikers brake sharp, swerve, etc. in anger at other traffic- crazy when you are always going to come off worse....

I also get annoyed by the city boys that come up to Warwickshire of a weekend and ride two abreast nattering away without regard for other traffic.
Often lycra clad also wearing goggles.

Now now guys stop being so stereotypical, I am a OMIL (old man in Lycra) ride both road and mtb, were not all like that, however there are plenty of car, bus, van and lorry drivers that give us no respect. Last word I am one of those wankers that run the red lights to piss off the cars in the que 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
