Has anyone used avon am26 roadriders? I`m fitting a pair on my gs500e tomorrow and wondered what to expect. I`ve always fitted Bridgestone BT45`s but thought I`d have a change, I hope I`m not disappointed as the Bridgestones are a damn good tyre on the gs in all weathers

I have Roadriders on FWF Dave. I really like them, my choice of modern tyre on the SD's certainly.

they`ll certainly get a good test on the old gs.
Its not a good time of year to scrub in new tyres but I`ve been riding all winter on slicks, so its time to change them before the rozzers get me.

Thats my problem on the gs carl, it does a 25 mile round trip to work and back on a main road.
There`s 3 roundabouts on it but a lot of trucks use this road and there`s nearly always diesel, rubber etc on them so its not a good idea getting your knee down especially as I start work very early most days and finish late so most of the year I`m riding in the dark.

well, they were certainly easier to fit than the Bridgestones, hardly needed the tyrelevers.
I haven`t had a ride on them yet as I`ve only just finished fitting them.
Lost a bit of time as I had to strip the rear brake caliper, the pads were worn out and one of the pins wouldn`t shift, well siezed in, warmed it up with the blowtorch but it still wouldn`t move, ended up snapping it off and had to drill it out.
I fitted new seals and fresh brake fluid and its sorted now. Thats one of the problems, with riding all year, the salt plays havoc with everything...

My GS did the same with a rear caliper pin , I drilled caliper through from the other side and pin tapped through no problems then , don't know why they were'nt like that originally would save a lot of hassle .

Had a few sets of them on the SDs and on the CB500s, good grip and good profile, but unfortunately the side walls were cracking after about a year with still plenty of tread on the tyres... We had them replaced under warranty but the same thing happened with the replacements...

I`ll keep an eye on them Irene, but I usually wear a rear tyre out within a year and a front in around 18 months.
I`ve had cracking problems with the bridgestone bt 45`s that I usually fit, just the front one as the backs aren`t on long enough, they tend to crack in the tread though, not the sidewalls. I don`t think riding all winter helps, I`m sure the salt doesn`t do them any good.
