am I missing something? if I use my SD everyday or every otherday all is fine but after 5-6days no go! after I cannot start it I take out plugs they are wet so warm them with cig lighter and replace and then will fire up it has a great spark. Is it not choking enough or is it over choking.Any clues would be welcome. Ps no funny comments about if it were red it would start lol

I wonder if the carbs need a clean? I had something similar with my 250. It always started straight away when used within a few days, but leave it a few weeks & it struggled to fire, eventually catching on one cylinder, then a few minutes later the other kicked in. I never pulled the plugs as it would start eventually - the longer it had been left the longer it took. I just lived with it. The compressions are low, so I put it down to that. Then I took it to Wales on a SD meet & that fixed it! Ever since then it's started straight off no matter how long it's been stood. I reckon those few long blasts cleared the carbs out. A few here have had similar experiences. The carbs are notoriously difficult to get clean, needing several goes through an ultrasonic cleaner (or a long blast to Wales). Dave has done a good guide to stripping & cleaning them. www.honda-superdream.co.uk/thread/6352/beginners-guide-stripping-cleaning-carbs

hi Ian have cleaned them in ultra sonic ,been through twice and rebuilt them because bike would not pull away with out choke when I got her , been stood only doing 4-8 miles a year for about 15 or so years ,its avast improvement now pulling up bride hill in top and will pull away in second and so on! I will take tank off and check if its getting full chokethats what it sounds like.If was not so cold I would give it a run down south but sulby and back is far enough.

What are the compressions like? I still think this could be my problem, I guess I'll find out for sure if the 250's ok now when I go to to get it from my friend#s garage. It'll have been standing 6 months by then.

Good result. When your mate Dave does the balancing- you might get him to swap that rear stay bar around? The cutout goes to the rear with the vertical of the "L" shape against the carbs. I can't remember why it needs to be that way, might be to clear the choke cable....

arr that will be me I striped them and gave him the carbs and took photos so that's what they were like when I got it, so they have been played with before I got it , as he replaced all the screws because half of them chewed up like some one had been using wrong size screw drivers, thanks for the info
