Such a shame & I'm quite surprised it ended so badly ! it went over on its side without much of a whack from side, hopefully the women was ok & got what the car was worth before the accident.

Part of me thought it looked deliberate. But no....I think the phone took his attention as he pulled away from the junction.
The lady driving was lucky to survive.

I had one as my 1st car (way back when)...strange as it hit the lamp post and came back on the road, there are no marks on the lamp post?

The problem here is old car v new car. Old cars simply don't have any safety features when compared to new ones.
An accident the other day involved an Audi and an old corsa, the Audi damage was minimal and the driver was unharmed, the corsa driver was killed.

I would agree that modern cars have much better safety features. Hope the driver got out very quickly. From memory the Herald had the petrol tank fitted in the boot (up-right) on the LHS. The filler caps where never that good, and from the video you can seen petrol coming out....6 gallon tank
