I keep getting visits in my warehouse by the peacock butterfly, They are always on their own. It a complete mystery as its the middle of winter and I thought they only lived a couple of days. Plus there is nothing for them to feed on?

I believe they hibernate through the winter,if we get a mild spell they wake up early but with no nectar to feed on they die .The plan I think is that they wake up at the end of winter ,mate and then die thus ensureing the cycle goes on but waking early generally means less butterflys the following summer .

It is sad. We used to get 3 or 4 an evening through the winter in the old barn conversion. The heat from the fire would wake them up and they would flutter about. we even went to the lengths og taking advice on what to do. This was to put them in a shoebox and place it somewhere cooler to get them to hibernate again. Not very successful.... The real mystery was how so many got inside through the summer to hibernate!

I had one fluttering around the workshop a few days ago- it gets quite warm up there with the compressor running. Disappeared now.....

Butterfly Number 3 Is this sign? From the butterfly god? Do I take that frame there or not?
