Hi anyone know a shortcut for removing the special nut holding the clutch basket in?
Is there a spanner or other such like that im not aware of or do I have to buy one a special socket?
Thanks

so.... my tool arrived into my local Argos less than 22 hours after placing the order - AMAZING SERVICE!!!! I drained the oil (only 2L in there......) took the cover off, took the springs out and there my story ends....... I cannot stop the middle bit from spinning, I tried putting it in gear, pressing the brake, I even put a metal bar across the wheel and used the exhausts as a brace to stop the wheel turning - that nut is not coming off......... please someone tell me I am a moron and it's a left hand thread or there is a very simple way of getting that damn nut off!!!!! I've looked at a couple of youtube videos and they all pop off with about zero effort....... Just a thought...... there isn't a secret locking tab washer or similar is there? On the plus side I managed to get a blade between the plates and they all popped free so the clutch is spinning freely now so if push comes to shove I might just put it back together, fill it back up with oil and then save the plates for a rainy day!

As I said on your other post there is no real point in taking the hub off surely ? I'd just clean up the steel plates and reassemble as you said , an impact driver is the easy way to get the nut off or a clutch holder anything else can result in damage , from bitter experience ...

Well, all's well that ends well. I made an executive decision this morning that I would have another go and if I couldn't get the nut off I'd rebuild (since the plates were now freely spinning away!)..... that is what I did. I huffed and I puffed and went in the huff several times in the process but the thing would not budge. So, I cleaned everything up, rebuilt it, filled it with oil, and ......... OMG! I actually drove it for the first time since I got it. I only went down the street and back (about 10 times) but it works! So chuffed Thanks to everyone who contributed to getting me here. I still haven't removed that bloody nut and I have a set of clutch plates and springs I haven't used yet but hey ho - they may come in handy some other time who knows!

You could always trade those clutch plates for a chain guard.
Well done.

Great to see you have got it going and chance to ride it up and down. Just for future ref ,I made a clutch nut spanner from an old box spanner (if you have any knocking around). Used this many times.

You know I was scratching my head for what I could use, never thought of that. I love the old make do and mend mentality! Nice one.

I made mine from a socket, so i could use a torque wrench when tightening it up.
