Question,. The 2 head bolts that have the rubber seal attached..... Does this stop the oil coming up past the bolt threads or does the oil leak from the top ,down.??

Neither. Honda's original intended function is still to be researched and decided despite a few theories. But actually the rubber sleeves stop oil leaking out from the camchain tunnel through the slots machined in the underside of the cylinders. No slots in your cylinder block- like the early bikes and some of the later ones- seals not needed... Quicker answer than FB too!

I used silicone gasket in the slots on my 400NA after removing all remnants of the seals & had no problem over 3 years & about 12k miles, I think it was Hermatite, but deffo silicone, not the old stuff. During that time, the bolts came back in stock at Silvers, so I bought a couple & replaced them next time I was pulling the engine apart. Some time soon, I want to do a top end rebuild on my 250NB, I'm going to see if I can get the slots tig welded up & skimmed to be rid of that problem. My 400N doesn't have the slots
