That article certainly explains wet sumping in Enfield terms though with their oil tank being integral to the crankcases the oil has a number of ways to end up in the sump and being burned.
On AJS and Matchless machines with the oil tank being separate from the crankcase and relatively high above the oil pump in the side of the crankcase, wet sumping is almost always due to oil draining from the oil tank down through the oil supply pipe to and through the oil pump and on into the crankcase bottom, or sump. On start up this oil is burnt as the article suggests until the scavenge pump "catches up".
This happens most when the oil pump is well worn, when the bike is run on thinner oils or when the oil is warmest. It also happens most to AMC twins because the pump has gears with spaces in it while the singles have a reciprocating plunger like the enfield and these rarely wear enough to leak through. Singles are usually run on 50w oil and many twins on 20/50 which is thinner. As with the Enfields, run the bike regularly (every two weeks or so works for me) or fit a tap in the oil line - I never will 'cos one day you will forget to turn it on... People do, sadly.

Forgot - not a problem with our Hondas as the oil starts and finishes in the sump which IS the oil tank. Could happen with a SOHC 750 of course but I have not heard of it.

Agree with the comment on running the Bikes as a prevention
My Triumph 21 suffers from it - after the winter layup I always drain the oil from the sump and top up the oil tank
