Received this in the post today from Germany. Looks like it has never been fitted - almost like a dull NOS finish on it. Should respond well to a light polishing sesh. I'd love to know where some of this gear has been.

Yes they seem to be. I got a NOS one from moto team in France back in 2010-ish which is fitted to my 250.
This was a bargain at 5 euro (auction) plus 17 euro delivery. Could see in the pics it was a goody.
Have you blasted any of these as yet? Don't like it when they are sprayed with silver paint.

If they are not too bad, then the dryblast can smooth it all out before the wetblast shines it up. Possibly the worst cover to polish up as well....

Very awkward I'd imagine, yes. It's all the nooks and grannies.

Rocker cover responded very well to a light polishing session - as expected. Just discovered a clear lacquer that may able to 100% replicate that factory finish (meant to be very tough).. We shall see....

If that stuff is any good it would be great to put on engine casings as they are a nightmare to keep looking half decent especially if using bike in wet & winter months

I've never found a product yet that will cover and adhere to polished alloy. Proper polishing and the odd wipe over with some belgom is the best i've found. Mind, my polishing's not exactly factory-finish.

I suspect the coating will get tougher with the heat. Will of course keep you informed.
