Mine is a 1971 model, MHK 49J, originally an Essex bike! There are little holes in the front mudguard for the number plate. Just got new Michelin tyres, the original Bridgestones were still on, plenty of tread left but the side walls were perished. My other half unearthed a front number plate for me with the right brackets on (apparently they were available from Honda at the time).

That is a lovely little bike- the mainstream tiddlers seem to be getting more popular now as the Fizzies price themselves out of the market. First bike I ever rode as well.
Interesting result of yet another mediocre conversation with my MOT tester friend (I chat to keep his mind off his job) is that you can put a front plate on any bike up to 2001 reg. Now there's a trap you could set for the knowitall's down the local meet....

Just got mine sorted out, found one with the right brackets and bought new self adhesive letters.
