I had up till now assumed they were the same , (though the engines I have/had almost all have been 250s), do you have the dimension between centres of those valve and tappets?

That looks like a 250 rocker arm fitted to a 400 head. Logically exhaust rocker is the same as only one valve, but the 2 inlet valves on the larger bore 400 are further apart so the rocker is different. As the parts book suggests.....

Like Paul said mate you have a 250 rocker arm fitted to a 400. The bore is smaller so that means the combustion chamber is also smaller, making the valves closer together and smaller.

Sellers on Ebay often lump 250/400 parts together as most of the time they are the same. Not for inlet rockers though. Just looked at Ebay and I see our old friend superdream_parts is one of the offenders....again.
I suspect your rockers have "414" on the casting which was actually the Honda model code for the CB250T- cannot get a better sign than that.
I also see plenty of proper 400 rocker assemblies for sale on Ebay now, and you can see from the photos that the inlet arms are more widely spaced than yours. Let me know if it is still not clear and I will post up the actual links....
