Having a think about the bike earlier and the photo here I'm thinking this has may have had a new front end? I'm pretty sure the early models all had chrome muds and polished forks. Does that sound about right? Read more: honda-superdream.co.uk/thread/8010/hi#ixzz4GV0pKxVW

Your right there snake, they had the chrome muddy and polished and lacquered fork stanchions.
It looks as though it's had a later seat and flared tailpiece fitted as well.

CB400NB had Black fork cases. CB400NC had Gold (coloured) fork cases CB400ND had Black fork cases. If you have the later forks they will have a M6 drain bolt about 20mm above the spindle on the side of the fork bottom cases.

Remind us what year / reg it actually is, Snake. Then we could perhaps show you a pic of what she would of looked like out of the factory. An engine / frame number would help.....certainly the first three numericals beginning 2** anyway.

Ah, that may add/explain a confusion. I recently bought a new seat (David Silver) which does not entirely match the existing. There is also questionable workmanship too. You can see from the photo the new seat does not have the two fixing brackets at the rear to secure the tail to it, nor are there any pre drilled holes for the other tailpiece securing screws. Also the holes for fixing the front seat to tank locating bracket are hopelessly out of line and the two holes for the right hand seat clip/bracket (shown on left) do not run parallel with the left hand ones. It will not be easy trying to see what bracket needs to be moved which way and by how much once the seat is placed on the bike. Is this fairly normal with after-market parts? Any thoughts? Are the original seats attached to the original tailpieces in a different way?

Bojer got it, it's a 400 and as far as the log is concerned it's red.
I don't know why my photos have not been posted though, any ideas? What have I done wrong this time? (Me and technology don't mix).

Well that seems about right and confirms the seat and tail are not original to my bike either.....a bit of a mish-mash. It's also quite demoralising too...... seeing how nice it use to look and......well, you know what I mean.

Sorry missed the first bit. So she is a 400 kicker (reading between the lines).
