I must have done about a dozen of these now- most ended up on Ebay. But this one is for Dave's 400 so once again has to be of the highest quality! You can blast these boxes with just about any dry grit, but most are quite aggressive and remove some of the base metal as well as the rust, paint, etc. You can blow a hole in them if not careful. The idea is not to reduce the thickness or strength of what can be a pretty delicate and thin item after all these years. This box looked pretty rusty and tatty, but it cleaned up quite well- enough to reveal the original markings and take a nice smooth finish of HT paint. I've tried all the other types of high temp paint and all have come off or let the rust through. Then I found a generic brand of woodstove paint at the local DIY store- I use 2 coats and on my own bikes I've yet to see it flake or burn off. The old ring gaskets can be difficult to remove- I use a scraper and then clean the sockets up with a flapwheel. I think this one may outlast the owner! Before.... After blasting and cleaning.... And after painting- ready to go....

It's good and solid Dave, but yes I was surprised the markings were still there which means it's not done a lot....

I`ll keep an eye on the weather on Wednesday Paul. If we`re going to get the thunderstorms, it`ll be a no no for a ride to willy woods I reckon, so I`ll blast over later in the week.
