Hi all, Just took delivery if a 1980 400n.. Although it was registered in January 1980, am I right to think it is probably a 1979 model.. Am I also right in thinking the 1979 version is only 27hp.. will the VIN help identify which it is? Im new to these so forgive my basic questions...
Im looking to flat track this bike so I will be asking more questions in the near future
Thanks Dave

Hi Dave let us know the VIN or at least the first four numerical digits beginning 2*** and one of us will identify what your bike started out as.
From the details you have already furnished us with, it will either be a CB400N or CB400N-A.
Welcome.

P.S U.K CB400N were 43hp from memory - 27hp on the CB250N.

It starts with 2004.. thanks for the welcome.. I looked online for the specs and the ones I looked at said the 1979 (sports tourer) was 27hp while the 1980 on (sport) was 40 or so.. bit confusing

Welcome to the forum Dave, you take the seat off by pulling the levers, one each side of the seat. This is what you're looking for, the one pointing down with the spring on it. Pull them to the rear and lift the seat up and slide it back out of the front mount, and lift off.

in that case... will the engine number help? Its something like NC01E 410097 NC01E - from memory that engine is out of a CM400T. Does yours have a five or six speed gear box?

Funny you should ask that... on the casing it has the 1 down 5 up so I thought 6... but whilst taking it for a quick blast ( like you do).. I couldn't get to 6... only 5.. whats going on there then? lol
