Hello,
I have recently bought a 1981 250n from a guy at the staffs classic bike show.
Bike is a clean example starts fine, but bike stalls when first gear engaged, has something gone in the clutch?.
had ridden bike a few miles up the road a few weeks ago when bike was delivered to me, clutch seemed ok. I don't know how long ago bike was used on the road. love to know what may have happened to her?

Hello,
Thank you,
Some advice be much appreciated,
Just bought a nice 1981 250N, bike has lost its drive, engine stalls when first gear is engaged its just like the clutch has given up!
Have ridden the bike a couple of miles a few weeks ago, I don't know how long ago the bike was used on the road?, last owner only had the bike about 6months. the bike has only three owners, 3k miles doubt if its a true reading? Any clues what may have happened to her is it the clutch?

This is really confusing - kind of a welcome within a welcome? And both of these welcomes more of a 'help needed' rather than an actual welcome / introduction. Welcome everyone. But please start a new welcome thread when you are new - it ain't hard.

ak250n - I'm going to split your help request / info into a brand new welcome thread separate from this one.

Right job done.
Now back to your issue. How mechanical are you? This sounds like a simple case of the clutch plates sticking after being stood - even for a short period - it happens a lot. Try putting her in second gear or third gear (so the bite / pull is not too fierce) then hold the clutch in as you attempt to fire her up. I find this free's off the clutch plates. Hopefully there is actually nothing wrong with your bike going by what you said - many bike clutches do this after a period of around a week of no action, my 5400 mile from new Bandit being no exception.
