It,s a shame ,i went on the protest ride it was a great day out , to say the day was a failure is,nt entirely true as it brought thousands of bikers from all walks of life together but the result is going to put a lot of bikers off , time will tell but i think the councils dropped a b*****k personally ....., not a happy chicken

Even hospital car parks dont charge for bikes and they are parking metre sharks Derbyshire council like most councils can only see the short term pound signs business in the town will suffer as a result

I doubt the council will realise the 70k the report claims they will make extra. Just policing it will cost more than that. Amazes me how disconnected from their own area councils are. I remember they introduced pay and display for bikes up at Helmsley years ago. Then they had to rejig all the machines to print out 2 tickets on request as bikers were saying tickets were being swapped and stolen, then they replaced the machines with those godawful ones where you have to type in your reg to stop nice people from passing on their unused time, etc. Etc.
In Brigg main car park the council now graciously allow up to 2 hours parking free. But you still have to display a ticket for nought pence and they employ attendants full time to check that you are correctly displaying your free ticket. Madness......

A shame they've done this, but how can they prove you haven't bought a ticket and it's blown away or someones nicked it?Visited there last September and was told we needed tickets for car park we used so photographed the tickets by our number plates.Free parking for bikes and cars where I live.Stratford on Avon stopped bikes parking in town centre on pavement few years back but at least they've a free bike park few hundred yards away now
