I have just brought a 1981 Superdream 250 - going back to my youth
It struggles to start but runs once it does start so I have just stripped the carbs (plenty of dirt in there)
Above the Needle Jet holder there is a "needle jet assembly" that is held in by the needle jet holder
The needle jet assembly has a larger hole one end than the other and can go in either way - which way should this go in - meant to check this when stripping the second one but dropped out too quickly
Also in the Haynes manual it says remove the rubber blanking plug from the slow jet housing and unscrew the slow jet - I cannot se a slot to unscrew the slow jet is this an error in the Haynes manual
Sorry to ask so many questions but the rest of my bikes are the old Brit ones, the old Amal monoblocs are completely different

Welcome to the forum britpete. the slow jet under the bung is pressed in and near impossible to remove, just make sure its clean, and make sure the bungs are a nice tight push fit, they go hard over the years and loosen so fuel can get past them and upset the running.

the needle jet goes in from the bottom with the thinner end first which sits proud in the venturi.

these carbs are a s*d to get clean, ultrasonic cleaning is the best way with them, I had to do a set of mine 3 times before i got everything clean..
If you remove the primary main jet You`ll see another jet/emulsion tube that one can get clogged up as well,it.
once you`ve posted 20 times you have access to all the site and I have done a carb cleaning guide which may help you, there is also a downloadable .pdf version of the guide, courtesy of member bobgoldie.

Hi britpete, welcome. Don't worry, after the carbs, everything else is easy on a Superdream!

Wazzabo Many thanks exactly what I need to know pics very useful - In terms of cleaning I am packaging them up tonight to send them off - should get them back in a few weeks
Will look at Stafford bike show to pick up enough stainless steel screws of the correct size to replace the current ones as the heads have seen far better days
The only other part that needs desperately replacing is the front mudguard and I'm going for the David Silver reproduction that looks almost like the original

The latest david silver muddy looks good Peter, far better than the ugly thing that used to be the only option.
Good luck with the carbs.
Keep posting on the forum, once you get to 20 posts you can access all the site , there`s a Honda workshop manual available to download as well as all sorts of other stuff.
It would be nice to see a few pics of your bike sometime.

Carbs now gone off for cleaning - get them back in a couple of weeks hopefully
Wazzbo asked for pic of SD, hopefully I've uploaded correctly and here it is below (minus the carbs)
I've had it for 8 months but only just getting round to working on it (passed MOT last month so that's good news)
Couple of more questions
The speedo and tacho are different colours, see below, which would have been the original?
Thanks

I'm no expert on originality, but my 81 250NB has the same speedo, and my 400NA has the same rev counter, so I guess the speedo is correct, not the rev counter

Ian Thanks - pleased about that as I think the black looks better and I want to go for originality - hopefully should be able to pick one up at Kempton Park Auto Jumble or Stafford Peter

My clocks look exactly the same after I bought the wrong rev counter by mistake when mine packed up!!
