Hi you lot,as usual been busy so not visited in a while ,hope all is good. Just saw a red 1980 400 for sale in Scotland on eBay,while it looks a decent ,clean ,solid bike it is described as"very original",even at a glance, there a so many bits that arent. After market front mudguard, home made (or after mkt) collector box,no grab handles, looks like the wrong seat to me,also the paint work is described as original,I'm pretty sure it is not a Honda colour and ,if it is, it only appeared on later bikes, decals are missing from the tail piece and the decals that are there look "wrong" to me. Like I said the bike looks basically good, but as there are so many things not correct can you then trust the other info EG;the "fully rebuit" engine (which has had the crank case and barrels painted black-just like original.........not!)the all new brakes etc etc. Ads like these kinda wind me up as it is slightly insulting to anyone with knowledge of the bikes and ,more importantly,is misleading for a first time Superdream buyer, who believes he is buying a fully restored TO ORIGINAL CONDITION bike. I kinda what to messaged the seller to put him right on the facts but am I just being an arse if I do that?? We get the same problem in the guitar world, people representing instrument as something that they are so obviously not to anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of guitars. Sorry I can't copy and paste the listing as my laptop is poorly ,but the heading for ad is Honda CB400N and the item listing number is 331819554993 . I am wondering if the seller is actually just quoting what the bloke he got it off told him or does he realise and is just full of BS? ? Any thought fellow dreamers??

"Restored to a very high standard" "totally original" Who`s told him that? why do these sellers persist in coming out with all this claptrap? They want to take a look at some of the bikes on here if they want to see totally original. we could send him a list as long as you arm with the things that are not totally original.
As you say, its very misleading to a prospective buyer that doesn`t know the bikes well, and an insult to those of us that spend hours and hours and thousands of pounds striving for originality.

'paintwork untouched from original'.
What planet are folk on? The mind really does boggle.

Not really joining in the fun and don't want to slate a bike that looks quite nice...
But making these ridiculous claims fools no one. Let the bike sell itself (for what she is or is not) and let the market decide.
