Exactly Ian - could of been worse.
I bought a NOS spare seat and when I turned the key in the seat lock (to release it) I felt the key twisting - then quickly removed it.
As I attempted to straightened it, the snap occurred. Bugger.
JMA keys seem to be as soft as the brown stuff these days?

had a bike(not mine) at work with a bust key in the steering lock, took two minute to pick it out...

I also broke a key on a meet in North Wales the other year. Left the key in the lock and straightened up the handlebars (to move the bike in a pub car park) at it snapped the key. Now I know why the some of the Neimann steering lock keys were of an angled design.
