Hi Chezzy. I replaced a Motad 2 into one system with the standard exhaust on my 400. I say standard, I used pattern parts. The downpipes from the cylinder head are no longer available from Honda, so for these you have 2 options. Buy secondhand genuine pipes, good one do come available from time to time but not often and will sell for a high price. Pattern downpipes are available from several sources for about £50 for the pair. They are single skinned and go a bit blue at the head end quickly, but they are what I used. Pattern silencers are available from several sources, I got mine from a supplier on e-bay, but I think David Silver sells them also. Mine cost £100 for the pair. They are chromed, I don't think any are stainless. The collector box I bought from e-bay.de, I was lucky with this purchase as it also came with the heat shields and pipe clamps. The collector box can be bypassed with straight through pipes, but it has been said that mid range performance will suffer. If I remember correctly I paid about £60 for the collector box. There is also an "H" type collector box that was made to replace the original, I don't think they are available new anymore. You will also need the silencer brackets, these are not available new anymore but secondhand ones do come available from time to time. Some sellers want a lot of money for them though. I made mine from stainless steel. Hope that helps. Mike. Ps. I think there is a thread on the forum about exhausts, maybe worth doing a search.

Hi Chezzy. I expect stainless steel downpipes could be made, but the dimensions would need to be accurate, I don't know if it's posssible to bend stainless pipe to get the curves required. Maybe it could be done but would be expensive I am sure. I also think that stainless would discolour with the heat, so would perhaps not be much advantage. An H section collector box could be made and has been done before, but some have said that performance is affected. I really don't know. I too like a nice looking exhaust system, that's why one of the first jobs I did on my SD was fit a 2 into 2 exhaust, and I think it was worth the effort. Mike.

Gazelles exhausts used to do custom made bike zorsts in stainless that were gorgeous and very reasonable when compared to motads etc. Alas they closed some years ago, but on that basis it should be possible.

I bought my 250 as a non-running project from a guy who'd bought an RS250 project to do instead. He was doing at as a cafe racer & had made some stainless exhaust headers for it himself (he was a plumber). They looked the business. So it is possible.

I've a couple of sets of exhausts to make this year. A manifold for a turbo suzuki and some pipes for the 250. I'll post some pics of the progress if anyone's interested. I'll pack the stainless tube with sand, heat and then bend around a former. 80Salan kindly sent me some genuine SD downpipes to use as a pattern. I don't think he's on here any more but I was very grateful. They were far better than I was expecting, and if they don't get used then I'll forward them on to someone on here once finished with.

If you went for the home made stainless headers option, you could just make them a bit longer to mate up with the silencers? I've got Classic Bike Shop ( bsa111 on ebay ) silencers on my NA with a s/h pattern collector box from ebay & ds pattern headers. The only bit I'm not happy with is the collector box, which I intend to replace with some chrome exhaust extension pipes, also from bsa111 - so that's another option.

Another option would be to make/have made an 'H' section 'collector box' from stainless tube. My pattern one is completely hollow, but rectangular section & the bike runs well, it's just a poor fit. A tubular one would work as well. I'd certainly go that way if I had the skill......

These are the link pipes from classic bike fitted to mine the silencers are from there too in hindsight I should have got the ones that kick up as I had problems with the centre stand grounding
