Hi Paul.
The correct generator for a 400 will have Hitachi stamped on the rotor. I have posted a picture of the 400 generator below.
I don't have a 250 generator to photogragh, but the most striking difference is the fixed pulser, on the 250 generator it is much more square. It also does not have the brown wire coming out of the windings that the 400 has.
