When looking at bikes to buy, what do you consider low mileage?
For me, I have always considered low mileage on a bike to be a maximum of around 15,000. Excluding bikes up to say 5 years old, just consider any bike of age 6 years or older and tell me what your expectation of low mileage is as it does seem to vary a lot between sellers.

I normally think of under 10000, if I hear that term. Anything else is just mileage.

All for SD vintage/classic:-
Under 5-6k - exceptional, rare and I would need provenance to prove why. Under 15-16k - very low mileage, could be ideal as a restoration and/or keeper. Under 25k - low mileage and well worth a punt at if the condition reflects it. 25k-35k - medium mileage- would look for some of the mileage related work- camchain/balancer chain, etc. to have been done. 35k+ - high mileage for a massproduced aircooled bike, but some are well cared for....

Yes - I saw a 26k mile bandit advertised and even though the bike is a 1999, I do not consider his description of 'low mileage' as correct - certainly medium. (This prompted the question).

(But of course, no doubt - if the bike has been looked after it will have lots of life still left in it).....

Hi Just to put in my pennies worth I have a 1995 cbr600f3 with 80k miles, I assume that is considered very high. I must say it runs very smooth and condition is A1 in my opinion People worry too much about mileage, if maintained well Hondas will be good for big miles. A low mileage poorly maintenance bike can be rubbish

I agree with you about the CBR600. I think a very well maintained CBR600 would be good for at least 90k before needing any major mechanical work due to the engineering that went into them. Mentioned this before - I've ridden low, medium and high mileage Superdreams and there really does not seem to be much correlation in low/high mileage to the way they ride/sound/perform - I guess more so the way the years have treated them / been maintained.

My freind Thierry here has 1200 bandit, one of the first ones, Its done almost 2 times around the clock, Its not pretty as he uses it snow and ice but its never been apart, He rides fast but smoothly, Weve done ... 2x carb sync, 3x rear shock, 2x fork oilseals, 2x valve clearances, 1x welded the exhaust, Apart from tyres, brake parts and oil and filters (which he changes often) its an amazing bike, moter is strong and sounds good, no rattles, Never seen a bike go on and on like this one,

My mate sold an SD last yesr with only 2k which was genuine. The lack of use did the motor no favours. His CBR 600 sold with 103k on it but was in daily use with regular oil changes and I have to say it was healthy. Better to use than to look at them !!!

One of our friends has got a CB500 with nearly 100000 miles on the clock and still running sweetly, and of course my old Scania lorry has done over 986000 km now and I am hoping to become a millionaire in it...
