Having removed my rear brake pedal, I want to do something about the state it is in before I put it back on: and my first thought was to paint it all black underneath the footpad. But I think a black brake pedal might stick out like a sore thumb. Terryc posted a photo of an sd with a nice paint job and a black rear brake pedal: But my sd is in the shiny version: The advantage of painting the pedal is that if I make a good job of it, I get the satisfaction of doing something creative and it doesn't cost much whereas if I have the pedal rechromed, it will blend in better, will cost much more and I run the risks associated with sending it for chroming. I'm dithering one way or the other. Any advice or observations gratefully accepted. ps I think I prefer the chrome and black version like Terryc's, compared to the all shiny version that mine is - but I ain't changing the colour scheme, not for a long, long time!

There was only one version from new Bob......kind of like a rough chrome. Although some I have seen are very shiny chrome ones - NOS as well - very strange that I bought a bagged one from Silvers a few years ago for my deluxe which has the really nicely finished chrome. But as I said, most were the rough-ish chrome.

So maybe Smooth Hammerite in silver is an option - hadn't thought of that.

On some of the chrome bits on my bikes, I've polished up the chrome & wire brushed & treated then painted the rusty bits with silver hammerite, which blends in a bit better with the chrome. Not for the purists, but I think it would work ok on your pedal, as the bit that's black now is hidden by the silencer to a certain extent.

Paint the rusty bits in silver then clear coat the pedal..did this to the sym xs125 looks a treat..Plus good rust/wear resistance if you use the acrylic lacquer spray.

Where is best to get the acrylic lacquer spray On some of the chrome bits on my bikes, I've polished up the chrome & wire brushed & treated then painted the rusty bits with silver hammerite, which blends in a bit better with the chrome. Where's best to get the acrylic lacquer spray - is that the same as the top coat for metallic car paint?
