hello everyone, i am over in st helens merseyside, im going looking at a few 400s tomorrow and just a couple of questions, what years / models did they have a kick start.? was it just the 1979 to 1980 cb400n model or did it include the cb400na..? i have been led to believe the later none kick start model is a better engine due mostly to revised oil pump..? is this correct and could the revised pump be fitted in a kick start engine..

Hello from Warwickshire.
Good luck finding a nice 400 - there are still some finds to be found.

right then, looked at an 82 400n today, ran nice, started on the button from both cold and hot, kick start model and kick worked as it should, gears all fine. to be fair it wasn't a bad bike.. engine isn't the engine that came in the frame from factory, the old engine seized due to running it very low on oil the week he bought it.. put me off a bit, got another to look at next week and its the newer 400nc 1984 with better oilways so with that i will look at the other then decide

Ah just read your post fully - you are aware the engine is not the original. yes, i like a kickstart, but the fact its not originals putting me off. if i was going to chop the rear off and make a street tracker / cafe racer it wouldn't bother me but wanted to keep it all nice an factory finish the rattle in the top end also put me off a bit, i do believe the cam chains do get a rattle.. whats the fix for cam chain rattle...? and would it be costly...?

hi chezzy Fit a new chain, easy to do if you split the chain and join the new one to the old one and turn the motor over by hand to wind the new chain round then rivit the new chain with a soft link. I`ve just done my 400, on my own, its easier if there are two of you. I posted up a few pics and an explanation in the technical help section. don`t know if you`ll be able to see this yetyou might have to wait untill you`ve posted 20 times honda-superdream.co.uk/thread/6973/fitting-new-camchain
