The VFR passed its MOT yesterday but had to have some work done to pass, the headlight needed re-adjustment!
I haven't ridden it much perhaps a few hundred miles tops and it didn't need adjusting last year so are they inventing stuff just to get some income??
The bill was £45.90 with MOT being £29.65 so that's £16.25 to adjust the light one quarter of £65/hour still cheap but why has it gone out of alignment??
The last couple of years its had advisory on the rear brake wear, when I replaced the pads they looked OK to me, again just fishing for some work??
Questions - questions!

Whenever my headlight has needed adjusting at the MOT they usually just tweak the headlight up or down a little at the time of test. Then again I have a friends MOT tester who does them for £15 and lets me sort anything myself. Last time I took the SB200 the brake light was stuck on but a bit of WD40 in the switch soon sorted that.

That's crazy to charge for a 30 second fix- you would have done better to have it failed on it and then get a free retest!
I keep the headlight bolts relatively slack, my guy can then tweak it down to satisfy the test and I can tweak it back up again afterwards.....

My MOT tester does it for free as it's always just a little out & he corrects it it's a old school type of mot station & runs it like they did in good old 70s / 80s I have to ride 16 miles to get there but it's the best place to go around here for older bikes, and it's a good excuse for a ride

He sounds just like my guy Richard,he`s an old school type as well, I`ve used him for years, used to be at the same school as him.

Same here, my MOT tester started out in the bike trade in 70s. Its funny, I had a conversation recently with a guy in the local bike club about MOT's. He mentioned he took his Norton Commando to a shop in Dundee and it was a young MOT tester. He failed the commando for the play it had in the back end. He had to explain to the guy that there wasn't anything wrong and it was just the isolastic engine mounting...
