On previous bikes with chokes, I've been able to start on full choke, then push in slightly and twist the choke knob to lock it in any position, whilst warming up the engine. My SD doesn't do this so I end up having to wait until the engine is warm ( annoying the neighbours!) before riding off. Is this just in the very cold weather or should it actually twist and lock, like my previous bikes? Mike

My 400 choke twists & locks. I replaced the cable about 8 years ago, but can neither remember nor tell if it's original or pattern. My 250 cable won't lock & it's definitely a pattern & that's where the problem will lie - the quality of pattern cables. Mind you, it doesn't matter with the 250, the choke isn't properly set up to lift the fast idle cam, so I have to blip the throttle 'till it's good to go - stuff the neighbours!

Original cables have a locking function. I always thought it was a nice touch where Honda seemed to have thought of everything...

Many thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. I forgot to look in my handbook. Doh! Cheers, Mike

I found out the purpose of that adjuster soon after I bought my SD. A friend was fiddling with the controls while we were talking and he said, "hey that cap around the choke knob is loose" and he proceeded to tighten it. I didn't think anymore about it, until I went to start the bike from cold next time. I couldn't pull the choke knob out!!! I then realised the purpose of the adjuster.

Thanks for the adjuster tip. I just tried it but I think that the rubber is worn, so the friction to hold it, just isn't there any more. Mike
