Loving this - looks 100% correct for a '66.... Oh, if only I had a spare nine grand.... One day I will own one of these.

Nah you don't want one of them, overpriced over hyped ornament. Can't believe they attract such high prices there again I can it's silly old buggers with too much spare cash rushing out to buy something they drooled over when they were in short trousers.Been there done that won't be doing it again as much as I'd like another Velo

Shows a '66 being picked up by a lad - outside the dealers.......piss pot helmet on, googles the works. The sheer look of this bike makes me proud to be a Brit.

Sorry to say but I have to agree with Dave , I have owned a Commando 850 , Triumph T25 , BSA B40 trials plus two Royal Enfield Bullets 350 + 500 , they look good and can be fun but are vastly overpriced and very frustrating to work on if you are used to Japanese bikes imo . To stop me doing it again I gave away all my Imperial spanners

This was my Royal Star:- In its original mode it was a nightmare to own. I fitted a 7 plate clutch, electronic ignition, proper lights etc., which made it much more reliable and rideable but ................... the purists gave me hell! I got fed up of cleaning it all the time and bought a Bandit! Mike

Think you had some form of goggles on when you thought of buying one, beer goggles maybe? They were bloody awfull bikes in the day, unreliable(timing side crank bearing failure?)/big end bearing failure/oil leaks/excess vibration/bits dropping off/shit lighting, and not particularily fast.Admit that one bought now likely had all the mods to make it little better but why bankrupt yourself to buy one when a decent Superdream is almost as fast .

I hear you guys.... So in a nutshell......you are saying 'stay Jap' ? Sorry to say but unless you have money to "blow" I'd not buy a Brit , Commando was good fun , but was always waiting for the gearbox layshaft to go , misfired in the rain and at the time £2500 seemed very attractive as an alternative . Change the front sprocket on a Superdream - half an hour including a cuppa ? on the average Brit bike it's probably half a day by the time you have found the tools needed to pull the clutch off , sorted the new primary chain leak , found the tensioner has disintergrated (again) then finally found a socket big enough to get that nut off the PO did up with a cold chisel , the clutch screws need to be put back in "just the right" amount or the clutch drags/slips or probably both ..........then it won't frigging start and a new oil leak has appeared . No I wont be buying another, Ducatis are a walk in the park by comparison .

I love old Brit bikes but they're overpriced now,but Jap bikes are now commanding higher prices and as folk become to appreciate them they'll keep going up

I had a '69 Lightning for 25 years, finally sold it over 10 years ago. I had 2 bikes at the time, the other was a Hinckley Trident. One had to go so the Trident won. I had restored the A65 with a lot of help from Alistair Lawrie Motorcycles when he was in Dumfries, then I got a Devimead clutch and a lot later, got the SRM end feed conversion. That bike sounded brilliant on full bore acceleration but it vibrated. After every fast run, I had to check all the likely bits that would fall off otherwise. Would I like another one? Damn right but not even at normal current prices (+£3k) unless I had money to burn.

You got to admit......it's a bloody looker though (the bike above).
I guess if you could put the reliability side and ease of working into the looks of that bike above then you would be on a winner....
But, as a purist that would never do. Nope, it's a no no isn't it? A non runner......not a go-er.
Havent nine big ones anyway. Spent the 33m lottery win already.
