Don't you just love Comstars (not!). Spent ages with the rim protectors, tyre levers etc., getting the old (very old) tyres to part company with the rims. 
My old woodworking vice + brute force, comes in handy as a bead breaker. I broke quite a few beads (of sweat) in the process, to find that the tube was only just hanging on to the air. 
The steel bits on the valve were rusted and with only a slight bit of movement, were leaking air. I decided that my old and aching back was not up to the replacing with new, so have entrusted the replacement of tyre and tube to my local hero at the bike and trike centre. 
He has a wonderful machine that never gets out of breath or sweaty at all! Once I get the front wheel back on, I can start to remove the rear and he can have that too, to fit the new tyre and tube. God bless heroes and machinery!
