Two derelict public houses in the UK some 180 miles apart.....one in Wapping the other in Sheffield.....I wonder what they could of had in common? Beer being one thing of course.

Is there a War of the Roses connection ? I would say they were working mens pubs where the only grub was crisps, peanuts or perhaps microwaved pies. These type of pubs are closing down all over the country. The only pubs that seem to do well here now are the ones with good restaurants.

Housing? No! Both will be turned into mosques or Islamic Prayer Rooms. Don't think I am joking about this the way things are going.
Pubs went into decline with the rise in Beer Duty and the the smoking ban put the kibosh on things. Working man in decline too!

In Budapest there is a reverse to this, so called "ruin pubs" were set up in derelict buildings... I only know this useless bit of info cos I am going there later this month for a bloody good drink with the boys..

Its sad that these are let go. There was probably a close industrial area, full of mills or factories. All the produce now comes from over seas. Factories / mills now changed to yuppie accommodation. With the loss of the factories / mills, the workers have moved on, hence the reduction in gatherings at the workers bars /pubs?

Most of the pubs I used in the 70s have changed names and inside look nothing like they did then, nearly all pubs had darts/crib/dominoes teams and we'd have a good night hosting and visiting the other pubs on league nights sandwiches etc.supplied and a lot of friendly banter.4 pubs in particular recently closed 1 a local Sainsburys 2 flats and 1 demolished, very sad
