Was £1 worth about 4 dollars in '61? I seem to remember it was something like that.

In 1961 £1 was worth 2 dollars 80 cents, so 1000 USD was £347 and a few pence That makes the price of those bikes look a lot better.

Me Dad always referred to half a crown (2/6d ) as half a dollar in the sixties.My BSA Starfire was £276 and a few shillings in 1970,I wrote it off after 9 days when I went over a cross road straight into side of a Ford Anglia
