Gordy as promised an update:
Got the guard back last week and was very slightly disappointed that (in the end) the platers did not feel it necessary to separate this one! When asked, they said they managed to complete the job, plating and polishing, to a satisfactory degree without separation. I have put the item down my lock up now but will get pics by the weekend. As I say, it is okay - I think with the extreme polishing around that difficult area (because it was not separated) has made the dome tops of the rivets appear quite a bit thinner in appearance.
I wish firms would stick to what was agreed and if they want to deviate, communicate it with the customer first. On the whole, the chrome is of a very nice quality - I would use the company again but with stricter instructions. It's a shame I won't get chance to use your rivets on this one - but I will use them on another in the future I'm sure. The whole job with delivery back came in at £104.

Thanks for the update Nick, I'd be a bit miffed too if they said they would plate the bracket separately and then didn't, they really should stick to the original plan. Still, as long as the final result is ok and you now know what kind of quality plating you get from RS.

£100 plus to rechrome a front muddy is it now? Makes the £99 silvers replica a worthy alternative for most bikes.....

It does Paul, and they aren`t a bad alternative either by the look of them.

Does anyone know how the Silvers £126 guard differs from the original? My guard will need some talc in the next year. I doubt it is the original but it would be nice to know.

This predictive text is a pain in the ass sometimes. For talc please read tender loving care. You'd think an iPad would recognise tlc. Can it not learn from its mistakes like the Google AI that beat the human champion of Go? While I am having a rant - when I was a kid a long time ago, the game of Go was a big round the world game made by Waddingtons, not this mind bending game from the Far East!

The Silver's mudguard is a copy of the CX500 item - to the trained eye, the bracket is slightly different to the one originally produced for CB250/400/T/N.
Also, the ridge along the middle of the top part is also more pronounced on the non-genuine item.
