Hi I'm the proud owner of a generator A.C.FLYWHEEL.
So thought "Electrical wiring test rig project" If I had something to bolt the stator and flywheel to, then get them mounted. I could spin the flywheel and test the CDI/Rectifer/Coils etc. So if you have a knackered crank/ bottom end kicking around, or know how I would mount this setup, maybe a bolt with a bearing on etc. just a though, would be useful.

Hi Chris. I too have been thinking along these lines. To spin an SD rotor at any speed would require something pretty substantial. I even have the design of an ignition system in my head that would work independantly of the windings of the SD stator, just needing the battery charge coils for battery charging. It would be battery powered though so would require a charged battery for the bike to start, but I think many modern bikes are like that. Just need some time to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak. However getting to the point, I have an SD400 engine complete, except for the cam chain tensioner. I bought it a while ago as part of a job lot of bits. I have no idea of its condition though. Send me a PM if you are interested in it, I travel around the country quite a bit so could probably even deliver it to you. All the best. Mike.

Would not trash that engine for this project. Can get a crank for £20 on eBay.Give it a chop.Pop it in a housing. Can fit a motor to the back. Was hoping to get a crank for free.
Just a question of assembling the parts and job done. My thoughts are I would test parts of donators for free, and test parts for members that donate to other member for free as well. Thus keeping more superdreams on the road.
For example I have a stator, but my wires are discoloured.so its very difficult to work out what to test. I also have 4 coils of which I know 2 don't work. Have been unable to test my cdi's. Have found a mains voltage design for testing cdi's but don't like the 240v mains aspect. I can send them all off and get them tested but by the time you work it all out,to repair this bike back to a half decent standard you need bucket loads of cash.

Hi Chris. Good luck with the project. Super Dreams seem to have 2 areas for problems, the carbs and the dreaded generator. Oh that's forgetting about the collector box. I think I have seen the design for testing CDI ignition coils in the 'you tube' link below. Well I suppose it works well enough and would give you an idea if the coil was dead or not. Really though it would need more sparks than just one or two to test it properly. I suppose charging the capacitor up to 400V using rectified mains was the simplest way to go, just don't touch the bare output terminals!! Health and safety, who needs it? www.youtube.com/watch?v=sclRkQx-fxIMike.
