There seems to be a bit of popping and banging going on occasionally at tickover and a slight reluctance to rev freely. The last time I had something similar, it was the auto advance that was sticking. I understand that the CB250NA has no points (CDI) so I am wondering if there is an advance/retard mechanism as such? I'm obviously new to the SD so be gentle with me!!! Mike

It's controlled by the cdi, so you can't adjust it, but you can check it's working with a timing light. If it's not advancing properly when checked, could be a faulty cdi, but popping & banging I'd suspect the carbs first on an SD?

I have cleaned the carbs but did not replace anything. I have ordered a 2 carb repair kit so will see how it performs once they are done. Thanks for the reply, Mike

Quick update: After some serious listening and suggestions above, I had another look at the carbs. I took out the idle mixture screws and found that one of the sealing rubbers looked a bit mangled. I replaced it with a spare one and it seems to have done the trick. It now ticks over more smoothly and the throttle response is much better. Thanks for the suggestions, Mike

Nice one! I should've thought of that, I had the same problem on my CB500!
