Fantastic pic, i remember those bike shops well, not very organised but they knew where everything was, proper bike shop.

good days, people were helpful then, now if its not on the shelf they cant help you.
no wonder online shopping is proving more popular.

I think that was because people knew their jobs back then Steve and had a lot of knowledge of what they were selling. Now the computer tells them what shelf it's on and how much it is etc. so no real knowledge of parts required. The level of customer service is pretty poor now across the board in this country, I think. Great photo Nick it's like a bike shop version of Open All Hours

It still is like that up here, I use a guy who's place is very similar, to the pic and he can turn his hand to any job,not like these modern places.

There used to be a bike shop in Chessies called Nipon mcycles , a local hero where bikes were concerned , God knows how he ever found stuff but he did and an ace mechanic too , a proper geezer.....

In Laceby ( village near Grimsby ) we had a shop run by a man called Barry Ladlow. He has forgoten more about bikes than most people have known. Brilliant man - still alive and kicking but retired and now works at the occasonal autojunble.

Yes I see what you mean, maybe it was a short cut way of doing work without dismantling too much and it's just looking wrong height because the handlebars are raised up while some work being done on forks.
