Looking for helpful advice from somebody who may know what the problem might be. My 400n starts on the button no problem, but loses power and starts to splutter around 6000 revs, if I open up the throttle even more it just dies. I'm no bike mechanic but I'm thinking it may be fuel starvation, any advice would be greatly appreciated before I have to take it to the local (and very expensive) bike garage. Thanks all.

I'd say CDI but clean the carbs first

I agree with terry, how long have you had the bike and has the fault developed since you have owned it?

Had the bike about 2 years, fault just started, only done 3k miles. Is cleaning cards an easy job for a novice?

cdi here as well, the symptoms are characteristic of cdi failing.

Before you dive in with both feet, check the fuel pipe between the tank and the carbs hasnt just rotted and is indded starving the carbs !

Rex has done a good job with the cdi`s, most people seem pleased with them,I know I am on my 400. I will also fit one on my 250 when I get her restored.

Just curious, when the CDI gives this type of problem is it always around 6000 Revs as in the opening post, ordoes the problem show up at other revs, say 3000 ?
