Today I had to take my CBR 650 in for a recall so set off with the wife in her car & me on the bike. about 10 miles into journey I pulled up at a main road junction waiting to turn left next thing I know I'm hit from behind and lying in road with the bike on me with the car over my back wheel, trapped . horror of all horrors made much worse when I saw my wife get out of the car that just slammed into me I was still trapped as car was on top of back wheel stopping me being able to get up. i politely asked my darling wife in a calm voice (NOT) reverse which she did . i managed to get up then & lift bike up off the floor expecting to see a mangled mess but all looked ok apart from the tail tidy which was bent up under the under tray, a few people stopped to help & we noticed water coming out of my wife's car which turned out to be the water bottle. after I straightened tail tidy I could see no other damage on the bike at all but car was a mess. bumper is ruined, fog light out, trim bent, windscreen water bottle split & inner wing split & all fasteners popped out & broke. after a lot of jigging around with the car it seemed safe to drive so we continued on to the bike shop to check my bike in for the recall. when I got there I explained the situation & they said they would give it a safety check & get it up on the ramps to see if any damage. hour later and pleased to hear that the bike is in perfect order the only thing visible is the engine casing the car however will need to go in for a repair worse day since my divorce in 1994

Yes cheers Dave no damage to us but it really ruined the day as we were going to drop the bike off & go off for the day to the coast, we still did but it was just not the same with the delay & things on both of our minds, we have not rowed about it at all no point it's done & it is what it is

She feels really bad Nick & hopefully it will improve her driving .
The Engine casing can be touched up as although I would prefer it to be perfect I can put up with it I do use the bike a lot & expect I will trade it in 2 years down the line & in the long run it will make no difference, cannot believe how there was no other damage the main impact was taken by back wheel as it was covered in red paint from bumper so must be very strong in that area thankfully.

Gosh - what an awful day, Rich. Quite remarkable how well you & the bike faired. Similar thing happened to friends of mine 20 years ago, but 2 cars, one of which was written off. They're still happily married....

They're still happily married.... It's really shocked my wife tbh & she knows how it could of been a different story so I'm really hoping it makes her into a safer driver, she cannot believe how calm I've been today since it happened & well if I was on my SD maybe the air would of turned more blue

Good to hear you're both all right - this could have easily led to a divorce or even murder!!!

I can see the headline now....
"Postie murders wife in street for rear ending his new toy on purpose".
