Okay....that aside do you happen to know the model count on 50711-405-000? I don't think I can be arsed to refurb the ones on here due to their conition.....would be easier to find a tidier pair.....I know the CB400F did not utilize 'em.

Hmm.. For the brackets I don't think it's 50711-405-000 you want. 405 is CB750K7 but the brackets are different.
I would make the effort to refurb those or buy some better S/H ones- they seem to be vary rare!

There's the rub my old chum- that Ebay 405 bracket is not what you already have there in rusty form. It is a simpler bent bit of metal. It looks as though the first SD's got the round 405 footpeg, the round 405 rubber, and the round 405 washer. But not the 405 bracket. If you look at yours-the correct early SD item- you will see they have doubler pieces spot-welded in both for the main mounting bolt and either side of the footpeg swivel. Like this off YHV? The 405 part does not have these...

And I saw them too! And they may well be the closest (after painting) that we will get after all these years- although there are a couple of black painted items out there as well and these are proper NOS. But these are still not the correct bracket either. I think these are dimensionally 50711-415-010 i.e. the later square peg brackets. But strange SS NOS versions. We need the earlier type 50711-415-000 that even Honda have forgotten ever existed. The key difference is down to the round rubber being slightly shorter in length than the square rubber. So for the rubber to act as the compression spring to positively locate the footpeg up and down, the swivel pin holes in the bracket are 4-5mm different in position from the end. For the shorter round rubber/washer the holes are further from the end. In the second photo 50711-415-000 bracket on the left and 50711-415-010 bracket on the right- this is the only difference between a round peg bracket and square peg bracket. If you fit a round peg and rubber to the later bracket- as both Honda and CMSNL parts lists would have you do- then the footpeg flops around horribly when in the raised position. Solution might be to fit an extra round washer (50712-405-000) to pad the length out..... Just lovin' the time and effort we are spending on pillion footrests!

I've now located a very tidy secondhand pair from the good old US of A.
The brackets on these look so badly corroded that even when 'restored' I think scarring would be evident in the metal.

In fact scratch that.......it's fallen through.
Realised the CB400T items I just bought did not have the 'doublers' spot welded within the brackets. A further requested photo confirmed this.
Will show pics soon of what I nearly bought but it all tallies with your research Paul.
That darn bracket surely must have its own part number......somewhere.

The ones I have managed to get out of buying in the States: And after a lengthy ebay UK search I located these, purely for the brackets (Only one of them shown but you get the idea). Spot the difference:
