No Paul, I had to go to the opticians at 2pm today, for yet another pair of specs, its 5 months since I had my first eye test, and 2 more eye tests, two changes of lenses and now completely different frames and at last they have managed to make a pair that I can actually see with!

Running out of photos of the show now, but this bike impressed me. If I was in buying mode- and I am not- I would now have it. I love the history of Honda bikes, and the CB650 was the final swansong of that world-changing 750/350/400/550 SOHC range, and arguably the best of the bunch. Not many sold, as it was in the showrooms not just with more modern offerings from the other manufacturers, but in 1979 it was next to the new 750/900 DOHC bikes. Things had moved on. But over the 550/4 it replaced it did gain engine mods and electronic ignition. And comstars. sort of a blend of the drastic changes coming in. But Bike magazine tested all three in 1979 and the old technology didn't do so bad. the CB650 was only 5mph slower and 0.4 seconds slower than the CB750KZ over the quarter mile. It was nearly 50 kg lighter. I reckon any serious Honda collector should have one. I hope someone got it. In this condition, for 1595 quid it was a bl**dy bargain...

I had a CB650 and a CB550 and yes the 650 was slightly nicer bike. The one pictured here was nice but lacked correct exhaust and the clocks were wrong, off a Hesketh?? But still a good buy.I fancied a nice TL1000 but me thinks my days of riding something like this are over

Yes, clocks were wrong- can't explain why someone would fit branded clocks off such a rare beast as a Hesketh, but I believe Hesketh instruments were in turn a buy-in from Honda and were the same as those fitted to the new CB750KZ. So probably a straight swap. Complicated stuff but interesting....

From memory clocks were pretty much same as the 550 ie 2 clocks with row idiot lights in middle

That SD is in my photos above- it was there last year and in the same place on the stand so a regular with the VJMC. Sure last year it had a drilled front disc is the only difference I noticed.
When I asked on the stand the owner wasn't available- guy called Grant I believe and I don't think a member here unless he wants to shout up!
