A bit of a daft idea I suppose, but I would like to sometime get a clean Honda Superfour CB400 with a duffed engine,( if on can be found), the replace it's 4-cylinder engine with an air-cooled twin like perhaps an SD400 engine or a Suzuki GS500 engine. What I am looking for is the combination of good looks and a mild easy to maintain engine, my own version of an SD. If I were to put a GS500 engine into it I would call it my SD500-N Anyone here ever tried anything like this, is it doable or worth the time.

I don't think there is a problem changing engines etc. as regards registration etc. But to be honest I can't understand why you would want to take a bike and put a less powerful engine in it. Why not just buy a SD400 and change the bodywork etc, to suit your own view of how a bike should look. If you had a CB400 with a GS500 engine in it why would you call it an SD500N ? You have some strange notions Scania

The engine has to come first then the rolling chassis ,a Triton was a Triumph engine in a Norton frame Tribsa ,a triumph engine in a BSA frame so a Hon duki would be a Honda engine in a Suzuki frame

Engine wise I like air cooled twins and singles, less complexity. Also I only have an A2 bike license so I would have to get it restricted and I might still run into insurance problems. I'm trying to bring my too SDs back as close as possible to their original spec, I'm hoping eventually to get a third, a kickstart version, I like the SDs for what they are, I wouldn't modify them unless I got one that was already modified.

Just use bp 97 seems to work better.. I've never found a problem with balancing carbs, just use the right kit..you can even make the "balancing carb kit" really easy. But when the inline four carb bank starts playing up its a nightnare. beat me so I gave up and replaced with a secound hand set job done. as for Engine wise, I too like air cooled twins and singles, also due to less complexity.
