Here I am in sunny South of France......but am now bike-less!!! Managed to ride all the way from Redditch to Rodez (look it up!) practically non-stop, without a hitch and at some `interesting`speeds, until I arrived in Rodez. It was here that my rear brake setup on the Pan decided to call it a day. Total damage: warped disc, knackered caliper and pistons, melted seals, melted brake pads (with non existant linings), destroyed hoses, paint blistering from the rear wheel because of the heat and partially burned pannier (again from the intense heat). Had to literally piss on everything to put out the fire and try to cool things down. Bike was recovered to dealer in Albi - total cost of repairs? E1,300.00!!!!!!!!! Am now waiting to see if the insurance will recover the bike back to the UK......... And this was supposed to be a relaxing break? ?

Hi grey beard,
Personaly i would just take the disc off ,pads out and take off the brake pedal so you wouldnt be tempted to "back brake" and rode it home,
Has it got interconnected brakes ?
Albi is about i think 150 170 kms from me.
Anything i can do to help?
I am at toulouse allday tomorrow with my mrs at hospital,

Surely there must be a breaker over there who can furnish you with the parts?

David - thank you so, so much for the very kind offer of the tools and workshop mate. Incredibly generous of you. Absolutely no s/h parts to be found anywhere nearby unfortunately. I did consider doing what is suggested and removing the offending mess, but the missus just wouldnt hear of it. Fortunately I have cover and am flying home tomorrow. No idea if the bike will be repatriated or not. If not then it will stay in my in-laws garage until I come back with the parts to fix it.
Unfortunately I need to be in work on monday morning otherwise I wouldnt be bothered.
David - very best of luck to your good lady tomorrow in Toulouse!!!!!!

Bummer, Carl, i hope you get it all sorted out. Maybe i won't ignore the leaky master cylinder, bent centre stand rubbing on the chain, & rattley exhaust before the wales trip....

There is a big bikebike breaker at toulouse "occasse moto"
You probaly had a bit of gravel stuck in there, the french choose the summer season to redo the roads ,thers gravel everywhere,
You shouldnt have told your mrs about taking the brake off, should of put a dummy cardbord disc,
For my mrs it a 4 yr story thts got a lot worse in the last 10 months, We know whats happening and live day to day, shes in shit state and im scared, sorry to talk qbout this,
Next time come and visit us and come on a SD, they are so less complicated, sorry it biggered up your hols,
