i have no problem with people who keep there bikes as mr honda intended or any other manufacturer intended, they were using the technology of the day when built.i have 4 bikes over 50 years old and one over 40.there are companies out there that have developed mods and products that increase the reliadility and rideability .there is a wealth of knowledge out there the internet is the best tool in my shed, and 1000 of people willing to share their knowledge.parts are getting scarce new parts even more.manufacturers when they make a product for say honda will make the same part under a lot of different names this is where the forums come into their own.so do not be so sceptical about aftermarket or alternative parts.example my vfr400 used to eat rectifiers fit yamaha r1 r6 rectifier all sorted,my trident t150 pig to start when cold the 3 sets of points to mess with every couple of months ,fitted a moden electronic ignition different bike.so when a 30 year old component packs in and a new replacement you need a mortgage to buy or a 30 year old one thats sat in someones shed or a breakers shelf sit down with the laptop and do a bit of surfing someone may have the solution.just a rant the drugs have cut in now will go and shout at the wifes car the engine management light has come on f......g thing

I am a great believer in the words " refinement improves the breed ". Given the choice between a 120 mph bike with single pot caliper , single disc brakes ( or , even worse - DRUM brakes ) then I would rather use twin pot , twin disc even if it means retro fitting. Who in their right mind would use 6 volt lighting these days?. My last Brit iron was a BSA A10 and I fitted 12 volt lights and , believe it or not , a Suzuki front end complete with disc brakes. Used to own a BMW 750/6 and fitted later twin disc front end from a 1000cc model.

A 350gt XB coupe used to eat points also on a monthly basis. Hall effect system installed & had not played up in 4 years, so i agree with what your saying. Changing a ignition coil will upset the CDI. You can buy or plug an OBD reader off flea bay to do some homework as to why, and reset the light. Apologies if a nerve has been touched.
