Will a collector box from a CB/CM 400 fit on a Superdream?

Yes it will.
A CB400 is a Superdream by the way.

If it is the original one it will fit.

The collector box is a genuine Honda one and in vgc with no rust/corrosion and painted black, surplus to requirement so will sell it on but what is it worth?

I would be keeping a spare collector box rather than treating it as "surplus"? One of those essential spares that will get ever harder to source.
If you look into the silencer ends- do you see solid or perforated internal tubing?

Good advice it cost me very little in the package of spares, the silencers on bike have few scratches/ tiny dents so likely stick the 2 new ones on.From memory the collector box has baffleing/perferations when looking inside and Honda stamped on it.Bike has supposedly "not seen rain" but collector could still rot so will wrap it up and store.

I've kept 3 for spares as they don't come up often & if no one makes a decent pattern part then it's going to get hard in future & they will still rot even if you never ride in rain

One of my SD's has a H shaped pattern the other a genuine Honda original, going to sell one of them soon but won't stick this C/box on it.Make sense to keep it,yes I remember in the day how quick they rotted on the CXs Dreams and Superdreams. Can't imagine anyone ever making a genuine copy of them again.

Good advice from all (keep it) - but if you are skint I would happily give you 35 - 40 nicker for it.

I was looking at this when I was in the market for a collector box for the Silverwing. www.amazon.co.uk/MOTOLODGE-Exhaust-Collector-Honda-brackets/dp/B00E1NPM0KLooking at the separate brackets it would seem that it can be used on different models but you have to do a bit of welding. I disconnected the box on mine and made straight through exhausts and now the old one is taking up space in the shed. Peter

If you are lucky enough to have the choice of either a pattern "H" section box or a proper Honda item- I would always fit the Honda?
Honda could have fitted just a pipe between the 2 sides, or even no connection at all. But they didn't and went to all the trouble of designing the "Power Chamber". Yes, some advertising hype, but they did not spend all that development money for nothing.
I have 2 otherwise identical 400 kickers, one with the "H" section box and one with the proper Honda. Just yesterday as I rode both back to back I was struck by how much "torquier" one was over the other.....
my qustion about whether the box in question had the perforated internal pipes is because the Yanks got a different box with different charactistics to suit their different silencers....
