I've been looking for a decent set of front bars to compliment the rear that I found but the originals seem scarce on the ground. I saw the ones on the DS site while they're not as good looking as the ones I've seen around if they are the only option they might be worth a look. I was wondering if anyone bought a set and what they look like fitted before I make a decision. ( Or better still if anyone could be persuaded to part with a set )

I don't think they're very pretty but they will do the job. It depends wether the cosmetics are an issue, as crash bars they will protect your engine but they won't win any beauty contests. Hold out for some originals is my advice, they do show up but often need a rechrome.

Thanks Ian
I'll hold off a while and see if anything turns up. One did appear on eBay recently which had come off a CB400A/T from Jama but they looked odd. I'm sure that bars from other models might suit but it's a bit hit and miss if the fittings would be correct.

Peter I recently took my David Silver crash bars off, if you are interested I will sell them to you. I was lucky enough to find a set of original ones but they needed rechroming which was not cheap!

Thanks for the offer Bluedreamer. Would it be possible to get some photos and an idea of price including postage to Dublin please. Perhaps a PM might be best?.

Not by any chance the ones I mentioned by Jama?. I was out and was not in a position to increase my bid on a set of these yesterday.

No don't think it's these as they have never been fitted, came from Germany, I remember bidding on them a few months ago and they went for double what I paid, chap has moved his SD on, had quite a few bits up for sale. We'll see what their like when fitted, fingers crossed.

I was pleased to find this thread, as I have a David Silver crash bar kit with no fitting instructions. I would be really grateful if someone could describe, or post a pic showing, which way up and which way round it is supposed to go!

Any chance you can show us a pic of the bars? Just wondering how long you've had them from Silvers, they may even be a genuine set for all we know - he did used to sell them!!!

Rik66 if they're the same bars as those on the DS site they will only fit one way. The top (open end) is slightly narrower than the bottom. You remove the top and bottom engine mounting bolts and replace them with slightly longer ones which I believe are supplied. One exhaust pipe will have to be removed for fitting.
I bought a set of these (Thanks again Bluedreamer) but unfortunately when I went to refit the exhausts I discovered that because the exhaust system on my bike had been replaced with a different setup without a collector box, they fouled the bars. If you have a look at the pipes on mine you will notice that they are much more angled. So if you have an original set up all you may need are longer bolts and your in business.
