I was up at the North West 200 last week and had a great time despite some crap weather. Some good racing and some frustrating wait's between racing. Unfortunately there were a few riders hurt but only one seriously and also a spectator got badly hurt in the same incident. I had the pleasure of meeting up with Gee (Formerly of this Parish) and his good lady Rona, a very nice couple indeed and it was great to be able to meet up with them.
All the talk before hand was about Guy Martin and Michael Dunlop none of whom really featured at all, as usual Guy got himself into a spot of bother when he slated the event on Thursday, complaining about the number of chicanes etc. and then apologised on Saturday.

Alastair Seeley done well with 3 wins meaning he equals the record number of 15 wins held by Robert Dunlop. Jeremy McWilliams won the Supertwins race at age 51 so there's still hope for some of us. It was good to see Ian Hutchinson going well again after what he's been through the last few years and a young local lad Glen Irwin done well in the Supersport class on his first visit to the NW200. Be interesting to see how Michael Dunlop and Guy Martin go at the TT as they didn't feature at all at the NW.

Replaced the Sky box with a Freesat box a while ago, so this year we were able to watch the coverage on BBCNI - brilliant. Last night we watched recorded highlights of the weekend's Motogp, followed by Sunday night's BBC NW200 highlights. What a difference; Motogp was tame by comparison, although the weather at Le Mans did look better. Why the BBC think this only of interest to people in NI defeats me! Still got last night's programme to watch tonight.

Did the chicanes spoil the event Harold or was it just Guy venting his spleen I think Guy had just had a bad practice and was the interviewers just got him at a bad time, a lot of the riders don't like the chicanes. That said one of the best places to watch it in my opinion is just as they go into the Juniper Hill chicane as there is a lot of late braking and overtaking done there. There are still a lot of flat out runs if that's your thing and I have watched the event all round the course and from a spectators point of view I think the chicanes provide good viewing. Guy to be honest, has a habit of being controversial and seems to speak before thinking and what he said was a bit offensive to the organisers and the local fans but he did apologise and I think it sounded worse than he intended due to him being in a bad mood at the time of the interview.

The BBC also put it on late at night even in Northern Ireland Ian, the event does create great racing due to the mass start nature and watching the mad dash into York Corner is a great spectacle. Unfortunately the weather was a bit shit, wet in the morning, dried up later on but it was quite windy all day. Good to see the BSB boys mixing it up with the road racers.
