Hi,
Had some time tonight to have a quick ride out for the first time and considering the SD has been sat for some years being restored before i had it it rides pretty well.
However I noted a couple of things and wondered if anyone can shed some light, firstly when I come to slow down and stop the revs remain between 2-3000 rpm for a while before settling back to idle and also I've noticed that there is oil dripping from the breather pipe, is this normal?
Every now again the carb leaks, and the guy that MOT'd it said would normally change the float needle and the seat. I bought a carb kit but had trouble setting the carbs up but from another set of carbs there was the pre set plastic floats but the needles are different to my new ones. Are the valves for pre set floats still available? Another thing I found when trying to sort the carbs out was the new float bowl gaskets i'd fitted had swelled and were a right nightmare to refit, anyone experienced this?
Thanks.
Darren

The revs 'hanging' issue is quite common.....you may have to consider a professional carb clean and set up.....even an ultrasonic clean perhaps.
Factory (non adjustable) set floats became available on the 250/400 Superdreams in 1981.....and the float needles are available. The needle's part number are as follows (different numbers but SAME part):
16155-397-970 16155-397-971 16155-413-751 16155-KJ9-751
P.S - pattern carb gaskets can be a ball ache - best to stick with genuine with these. That said, there are very good pattern Japan sourced needles available - speak to David Silver (and quote part numbers above).

Mate, thats awesome info. I'm going to try and rack some miles upon the bike and see if things improve. I have a spare set of carbs which i might give a good clean and try and set them up and see how it'll run before making any decisions on spending more money. Are you able to answer the question about the breather dripping oil? the guy I bought the bike from had the engine stripped and rebuilt with new piston/rings/cam chain several years ago, but he never ran it. I've not touched the engine so I'm kinda relying on the fact it's done properly.
Cheers
Darren.

Re : MOT man saying to change the seat......
On Superdream carbs, to my knowledge you can only clean the seat, not replace it.....it normally sorts the issue.

Yeah it's strange - my 1979 250N had a severe case of hanging revs last year when I bought her but now the problem has near enough gone it would seem (for now).
So suck it and see - use her or start her at every available opportunity to blast those carbs through.
Re : oil drip: I have not got a scoob on this but some clever dick will.
