Looking like an alternator/wiring/connector problem then......or, as Scania says, one of the test replacements is also faulty - it happens!

my money is on the generator, had the same problem with mine. One minute it ran fine, next no spark. swapped coils, cdi but still nothing. Changed the genny over from my spare engine and its been fine ever since.

I'm thinking it's the generator too, luckily i've got a spare so it's worth a try, getting the flywheel off is my biggest problem though

When my stator/generator packed up shortly before lost power then fine , did this a few times then no spark .... I swopped cdi and coils from my running cm250 and still no joy ,so as.i did,nt need to use my bike bought a stator off ebay and eventually had a go at fitting it myself, trickiest bit was holding still the Genny flywheel using a rubber belt wrench whilst undoing the flywheel bolt and I.strongly recommend you use a proper bolt to pull off the flywheel, not too difficult with the proper tools ....

I use a chain wrench for holding the flywheel still

What about when you've got the nut off? How do you pull the flywheel off, i'm guessing it's a taper fit or something like that

My method for getting the flywheel off: * Bike in neutral, on main stand * gear lever detached from pivot (10mm bolt) * genny cover removed (8mm bolts) * stator wiring released from loom connections * cheese screws removed from pick-up (make sure you use a good fitting bit; consider using an impact driver tool - tinyurl.com/nsrxawu)* Remove flywheel bolt with an electric impact driver (14mm? 17mm?) running anti-clockwise (http://tinyurl.com/kbv4xwk) * spare oil filter bolt screwed in finger tight * quick blat clock-wise from my impact wrench with a 12mm impact socket to release the flywheel * quick blat anti-clockwise to release the oil filter bolt from the flywheel * lift off the flywheel * remove the stator with 3 screws installation being the reverse of removal, but: * take care to put the stator back on square * Don't lose the woodruff key, or forget to replace it (http://tinyurl.com/onz4og9) * consider buying replacement screws for the stator (x3) and pickup (x2) before you start; good chance you'll bugger them removing them. As I say, with the right tools it takes seconds but it can be a right ballache without them. Consider borrowing or buying the tools if you don't have them already. You'll thank me in the long run!

p.s. I don't bother torquing the flywheel retaining bolt (tut tut) on assembly. Last time I did, I bent my flywheel counter-holding tool (actually a cam sprocket counter holding tool) as it bent before the nut was tight enough and scratched the flywheel (cosmetic damage only). Instead I just hit it for half a second with the electric impact wrench. Ahem. So long as the 5 screws (stator & pickup) don't give me grief, I can swap one over in under ten minutes, easy. The first time I did it, don't ask lol
